He was Educated at Fort Street and The Kings School, Parramatta and won the Broughton and Forrest Exhibition in 1910 and went to Merton College Oxford in 1911. He took his B.A. degree "in absentia" in 1915 and his M.A. in 1918.
Enlisted University Squadron 1st King Edwards Horse 2 January 1912.
2nd Troop C Squadron February 1915.
Arrived in France 22 April 1915.
Kings Corporal, promoted from the ranks for distinguished service in the field 1916.
Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 5 March 1916 Oxf & Bucks Light Infantry.
Captain.
Wounded 3 times, 26 December 1915, 31 July 1916 and 2 May 1917.
Invalided to England, Company Commander reserve unit September - December 1917.
Dover October 1918 to April 1919.
Regimental Education Officer 3rd Ox and Bucks in Cork Ireland April to August 1919 and was present during the Sinn Fein disturbances.
Awarded Military Cross for his gallantry in action at Beaumont Hamel 13 November 1916.
For conspicuous gallantry in action. He assumed command of his company and organised the left flank defense, worked untiringly, and sent in most valuable information. He set a splendid example of coolness and courage throughout.
Returned to Australia, ordained December 1919 and was curate at St Matthias Paddington, the Garrison Church for 5 years. Appointed rector of St Aidan's Loungueville January 1924 and retired in July 1954.
