Son of Robert Alexander and Lillian May Nield (nee Graham) of Railway House, Flinderst St., Townsville, Queensland, Australia. 

Word has been received that Pte. Roy Neild had been killed as the result of the ship by which he was travelling being torpedoed in the engine room.  Pte. Neild was the son of Mr.  R A Neild, locomotive superintendent at Townsville, who is well known in railway circles.  For many years Mr. Neild was a most popular resident of Ipswich, particularly in musical circles, and was fro some considerable time works manager at the North Ipswich Railway Shops.  His son Roy Neild, was likewise a popular young man, and was a member of St. Paul's Young Men's Society.  His demise will be much regretted.  roy served his apprenticeship at Ipswich and Townsfille under the supervision of his father.

A message to Mr. R.A. Neild, conveying the melancholy news, stated that at the time of the occurence the deceased stood gallantly to his post.
