Missing in action El Alamein 13 November 1942

"About the end of October, 1942, Matiland was P1 Runner and during action was sent on a message to another gun, as a portee was going back for ammunition.  He climbed on to it and that was the last that was wever heard of him until he was reported as a prisoner of war.  As he was not reliable under fire it was through that he had gone back when first reported missing.  However it was night and it would appear that he became lost."
