He served in both the South African (Boerwar and WW1First service was as a Private S.N. 412, 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer war. Second service was as a Private S.N. 104, 1st Mobile Veterinary Section AIF, WW1.

When Charles Benjamin Mills enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his brother W. Mills, Ormeau, South Coast Line, Queensland.

He enlisted again in 1915 for WW1 and on his Attestation Paper, dated 11 Jan 1918, it was noted that; he was born at Beenleigh, Qld, and was 37 years of age; he was single and a farmer; his N.O.K. was his brother William Mills, Ormeau, Qld; and he had previosuly served in South Africa with the Qld Imperial Bushmen.

Charles Benjamin Mills was born on 3 Feb 1877 at Beenleigh, Qld, a son to Daniel Mills and Anna Maria Mills (nee Warr).
