Les was born in Stratford, Victoria in 1899, fourth of seven children of Charles Brown (b1867 in Ararat, Victoria) and Elizabeth Mary Mildenhall (b1864 in Tullamarine, Victoria). Charles (a Labourer in Stratford) and Elizabeth married in 1890 in Sale, Victoria and settled in Strtaford where they raised their family and Charles was a Labourer.
Les worked as a Labourer in Stratford - on 25 October 1918 he enlisted in the AIF (Service No:81640); cancelled on 5 December 1918, In 1927 in Melbourne, Les married Agnes Ethel Rogers (b1896 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Agnes was working at Yarram Yarram as a Dressmaker. Les and Agnes settled in Stratford, where they raised their family and Les worked as a Labourer. In the late 1930s the family moved to Melbourne - Les was a Cook and Agnes a Machinist. Les died in 1979 and Agnes in 1989.
