Biography contributed

Born in Stratford, Victoria in 1922, Frank was eldest of four children of Francis (Frank Snr) Byrne (b1894 in Steiglitz, Victoria) and Alice Louisa Brown (b1901 in Stratford, Victoria). Frank Snr served in WWI (Private; Service No:1362) and joined the Railways (VGR) following his Discharge. Frank Snr and Alice married in Stratford in 1923, and lived in Baddaginnie and Stratford, where they raised their family and Frank Snr was a Railway Employee.

Frank was working in Violet Town as a Labourer when he enlisted in the RAN in 1941 and, in Melbourne in 1945, married Gladys Lillian Gains (b1917 in London, England) - Gladys immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1925, arriving in Melbourne on board the Barrabool. Gladys worked as a Saleswoman in Melbourne. Following his Discharge, Frank and Gladys settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Frank was an Upholsterer. Gladys died in 2010 and Frank in 2012.
