Harry enlisted as Henry, although his actual birth name was indeed Harry. He was the 4th son of George and Henrietta CLAYTON (nee PROSSER) and the 5th of 10 children born to them. All but the youngest, who was stillborn, survived to adulthood.
He married Verbena RICHARDS in 1907 in Midland Junction and they had 3 children.
Three of his brothers also enlisted in WWI: Lewis, Wallace, and Ernest. Wallace didn't make it home, dying in Pozieres, France in 1916 aged 23. The news of Wallace's death came soon after the death of his mother Henrietta, aged 60.
