PERRY - Killed in action on the 12th October, 1917, somewhere in France, Corporal Ernest Walter Perry, dearly beloved son of J. and S. Perry, Victoria street, Eaglehawk, and loved brother of Harry, Charles, Arch. (on active service since 7th August, 1914), and Mrs. Charity.
And how can man die better,
Than facing fearful odds.
For the honor of his country
And the glory of his God.
- Inserted by parents, brothers and sister.
Mr. J. Perry, of Victoria-street., Eaglehawk, has received, fromn the Defence department, through the Rev. Prior, the sad news that his son, Corporal E. W. Perry, was killed in action on the 12th October somewhere in France. Corporal Perry, who was 33 years of ago, enlisted with the New Zealand forces in July, 1916, and embarked on the 10th October following. Prior to enlisting he was a member of the New Zealand Police Force, having resided in New Zealand for about eight years. A younger brother, Private R. A. Perry, has been on active service since 7th August, 1914, and is still in the trenches. Corporal Perry was hoping for an opportunity of meeting his younger brother, but it is not known whcTher they met or not. He was of a jovial disposition, and highly esteemed by many friends, both in Victoria and New Zealand, and the greatest sympathy is felt for the bereaved family.
