STOKES.— In sad but loving memory of our dearly beloved son and brother, Private Clarence John Stokes, who died of wounds in France on September 30th, 1917, aged 24 years.
No one knows the silent heartache,
Only those can tell
Who have lost the best and dearest
Without a last farewell.
— Inserted by his sorrowing parents, brothers and sisters.

STOKES.--Died of wounds in France on September 20, 1917, Clarence John Stokes, aged 31 years.
Somewhere in France our brother is lying,

Little we thought when we said good-bye
It would be our last, farewell.
