Biography contributed by John O'Grady

My Mother, Joan McLean Lott is the Niece in Law of Thomas Arthur Lofthouse, and the following is courtesy of her.

"Uncle Arthur was an Englishman who migrated to Australia in 1910. His full name was Thomas Arthur Lofthouse. He was an Electrical Engineer and worked at the Kandos Mine and Cement Works, which are about a mile from my Grandfathers property. While at Kandos he met one of my mothers sisters - Alice.

When the 1914 war broke out he enlisted in the Light Horse Regiment and served in Egypt and Palestine as a Signaller in the Light Horse Regt.

Somehow at the end or near the end of war in 1918 he became involved with the newly formed Australian Air Force and did not return to Australia until 1919.

He married Alice Lloyde in 1920 and for some years lived in the town of Kandos, which was where I first met him.

Sometime in the late 1920's he and one of Aunty Alice's brothers Charlie acquired a sheep station 27 miles north east of Coonamble, NSW.

He and Aunty Alice retired from there about 1945 and lived in Balgowlah, Sydney. Aunty Alice died in 1966 and Uncle Arthur in 1976. He was in his late 80's.

If anyone is reading this and is related to Arthur could you please email me at [email protected]. I have his Service Medals and photo's that may be of interest. Regards. John O'Grady.
