Son of Sydney George BROWNE and Emma HORNE fmly BROWNE nee ARNOLD of Kalgoorlie, WA

Stepson of Louis Albert HORNE of Kalgoorlie, WA

Arnold moved to New Zealand around 1939 and was a miner for Blackwater Gold Mining Company at Waiuta.  Enlisted as an aircraft hand on 29th December 1939 in Levin.  With No 2 Service Flying Training School 17th January 1940.  With No. Initial Trainign Wing 27th October 1940 as a pilot under training.  With No. 3 Elementary Flying Training School 24th November 1940. No 2 Flying Training School 18th January 1941. Pilot badge awarded on the 3rd March 1941 and promoted to Sergeant 12th April 1941.

Embarked for England on 29th April 1941, with No.3 Personnel Reception Centre 29th June 1941.  56 Operational Training Unit 14th July 1941 flying the Hurricane.  Joined 87 Squadron on the 1st November 1941.  A total of 256 flying hours were logged.

Lost whilst with 229 squadron flying Hurricane IIb P5588.
