Military Medal
'Valuable services in carrying out rescue work and attending to wounded, showing great personal courage and devotion to duty. (East of Ypres 4 October 1917)'
Recommendation date: 11 October 1917
'These men [KING and 3464 STC EZARD, 6th Bn], as Stretcher Bearers, showed great coolness and devotion to duty in the operations of the 4th October, 1917, in the vicinity of ZONNEBEKE east of YPRES. Casualties were extremely heavy through the enemy barrages of 4th, 5th and 6th and notwithstanding the shelling, fatigue and great danger, they moved about constantly dressing and attending wounded men. They set a fine example of devotion to duty.'

We regret to chronicle the death of Mr. Herbert E. King, son of Mr T. King of Tyers, which took place on Sunday. Deceased, who was only 30 years of age, was employed on the railways. He served with distinction in the great war, winning the Military Medal, but the poisonous gas used by the enemy had its effect on him, and compelled him to enter a sanitoritorium. Everyone respected him, and much sympathy will be felt for tlhe bereaved wife and son in their trouble. The remains of deceased are to be interred in the Traralgon Cemetery today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m
KING.—On the 12th November, at his residence, Henry street, Traralgon (result of gas received whilst on active. service, A.LF.), Herbert E. (Bert), dearly beloved husband of Olive M King, and loving daddy of Will, aged 30 years.
