Son of Robert JARDINE and Mary Ann nee PEARCE.
Served for two years abroad in the 1914-1918 War, holding a commission as Flight Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Air Service, and later as Lieutenant in the Royal Air force. At the termination of hositlities Fitzroy was serving with the 243rd Squadron in France.
Awarded Oakleaf Emblem for Mention in Despatches (Gaz. 1919)
He proceeded to England and gained admission to the Royal Naval Air Service. After qualifying as an aeroplane pilot he served for short periods on several home-defence stations on the east coast, during which time he gained the certificate of a seaplane patrol's pilot. He was then drafted to the 243rd Squadron in France, with which unit he served with distinction, as Acting Flight Commander and Flight Navigation Officer. His commanding officer, Major C. W. Scott, D.F.C., writing in reference to his work stated : "Lieutenant Jardine exhibited the highest courage and skill as a patrol pilot. I consider him a thoroughly reliable and exceptionally keen pilot." His services were rewarded by a mention in despatches and the award of the Oak Leaf Emblem.
In 1920 he entered the Faulty of Science, University of Sydney and in 1921 was awarded the Levey Scholarship for Physics and Chemistry, Pofessor Griffiths Taylor Prize for Geography. In 1922 was Awarded Deas-Thmson Scholarship for Geology (with Chemistry). In 1924 he graduated Bachelor of Science with the following awards: 1st Calss Honours and University Medal for Geography; the John Coutts Scholarship for General Proficiency in the Faculty of Science; the Deas-Thomson post-graduate Scholarship (Geology); Professor David's Prize for Geology; NSW Government Research Scholoarshop.
In 1925 he was Awarded Science Research Scholarshop researching the Great Barrier Reefe and Queensland Coast. In 1929 he graduated Master of Science, Universtiy of Sydney with award of University Medal for Geology.
Fitzroy went on to be the 4th Headmaster at the Rockhampton Grammar School.
