Died on this date – 30th November..... Private Eric William Toms was born at Nelligen, NSW in 1895. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 20th September, 1916 as a 23 year old, married, Blacksmith from Parramatta, NSW.
Private Eric William Toms embarked from Sydney, NSW on HMAT Benalla (A24) on 9th November, 1916 with the 39th Infantry Battalion, 5th Reinforcements.
Private Eric William Toms died at 2.10 am on 30th November, 1916 on board HMAT Benalla (A24) while at Sea from Meningitis. He was buried at Sea & is commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton, Hampshire, England as he has no grave.
