James originally enlisted with the 15th Infantry Batt., SERN: 623 on 25 Sep 1914. James returned to Australia and was discharged medically unfit on 06 Jan 1916 having suffered a "severe" GSW (groin) on 27 Apr 1915 at Gallipoli.
James reinlisted at Brisbane again on 02 Mar 1917 - SERN: 3887 and saw further active service in France. He was finally discharged at the cessation of hostilities on 09 Oct 1919.
"MILL, Mr. James Henderson, 71 Glen St., Kelvin Grove, 15th Batt., 1st A.I.F.— Relatives and Friends Mrs. M. A. Mill, Mrs. H. Abercrombie, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Mill are respectfully informed of the death of their beloved Husband and Father and Father-in-law.
