Son of William Oliver and Blanche Margaret Oliver nee Gladston of Bendigo, Victoria.

During 1907c Richard married Muriel Evelyn Shaw in Boulder, WA. Address at the time of enlistment was given as Boulder, WA later as Lord Street, Perth, WA.

Commenced return to Australia on 11 January 1918 abord HT Port Darwin disembarking at Fremantle date unknown.
