Biography contributed by Neil Leckie

“Jack” Nase was born at Ullina, 40 kms from Ballarat, and was an 18-year-old single Farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on 30 July 1915. As he lived in the country, he was not required to undertake Compulsory Military Training and therefore he had “No Previous Service”. He served at Broadmeadows from 9 August 1915. Jack was lightly gassed during the battle for Villers Bretonneux in April 1918 and spent four weeks recovering. Driver Nase returned to Australia on the same ship with some of his mates on the Troopship Devanha and was discharged on 15 August 1919 from the AIF on his Termination of his Period of Enlistment.
