At the time of enlistment he gave his age as 22 which calculated his year of birth as 1894, BDM has his year of birthday as 1901c.

Son of Robert Openshaw and Mary Louisa Openshaw C/- Waterfall Hospital, Waterfall, NSW.

On 22 May 1919 Robert married Elsie May Marshall in the Congregational Church, Petersfield, Southampton, England. Minister T. Lee Hutson officiated.
