William was admitted to Group Clearing Hospital, Codford (sick) on 3/7/1918, rejoined his Unit on 9/7/1918, left England on 18/12/1919 on HT Konigin Luise, and returned to Melbourne on 4/2/1920.

William was again admitted to hospital on 10/2/1920, discharged from hospital on 19/6/1920, and discharged from the AIF on 27/9/1920.
