Add my storyBiography contributed by Chris Buckley
Ric was the second of five children of Francis (Frank) Hethersett Huntingdon (born 1861 in Sydney, NSW) and Edith Amy Barr (born 1867 in Brisbane, QLD). Frank - a Public Servant with the Education Department - and Edith married in Brisbane, QLD in 1892. They settled in Brisbane, QLD where they raised their family.
Ric was a Clerk in Brisbane when he enlisted in the AIF in April 1916 and served as a Corporal with 42nd Infantry Battalion. He was KiA in July 1917. In a letter to Ric's parents following his death, Captain Leahy says 'Your son, who had only joined us recently, faced an ordeal that called for the fullest exercise of personal courage and powers of endurance, and I am proud to say that he discharged his duties to the end with marked ability and steadiness very gratifying to his officers .... You will be relieved to learn that his end came suddenly, and he was spared any undue suffering'.
Older brother Sergeant Hethersett Roland Hetherington (Service No:5791) also served in WWI.
