28 Feb 1917: Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 6228, 10th Infantry Battalion, Severely wounded when a piece of bombshell penetrated his left Lumbar region. Admitted to Fulham War Hospital in England.

Thomas Couchman was living in Willunga with his mother, Alma, when he enlisted in Adelaide. An unmarried labourer aged nearly 22, he had a fresh complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair, wieghed 133lbs (60kg) and stood 5' 9" tall. Thomas set sail on the HMAT A68 Anchises on 28 February 1916. 

Severely wounded in France in February 1917 which left alarge and painful scar Thomas was invalided back to Australia in early 1919.
