At the time of enlistment his address was given as Pitt Street, Redfern, NSW

Before leaving for Australia he served with the Queenstown Volunteer Rifles, South Africa for eighteen months.

Son of Agnes M. Vickers of Grey Street, Queenstown, Cape Colony, South Africa 

Commenced return to Australia on 17 March 1916 aboard HT Ascania disembarking on 30 April 1916
