Born 4/5/1890 to William James & Susan Hannah Gee nee Charles. Enlisted 7/6/1918 aged 28 years after previously being deemed unfit NOK - Wife, Mrs S.M. Gee, Haggar Street, Eaglehawk, Victoria. Embarked 31/8/1918 from Melbourne per HMAT Barambah A37 with the 1 to 17 (VIC) Reinforcements. 20/10/1918 seriously ill he was put ashore in Sierra Leone, he passed away the following day and was buried at the Freetown [King Tom] cemetery, West Africa.
Mrs. Susan Gee of Willan-street, Eaglehawk, widow of the late William Gee of Newton-street, Sailors Gully, was the mother of seven sons who volunteered their services with the Australian Imperial Forces in defence of the Empire. They were all born at Sailors Gully, and in July 1916 three were still on active service aboard. Mrs Gee has three other sons – Norman, is a schoolboy, another failed to pass the medical test being below the required height, while the third is in but died enroute to the front. Susan Hannnah Gee nee Charles gave birth to 13 children 10 sons, two of whom died in infancy and three daughters all of whom she outlived. She remarried but was again widowed and died as Susan Aspey in 1932 aged 70 years.
