James McIver enlisted as James McIvor but his mother sent a statuary declaration to Base Records in 1919 stating that the correct spelling of her name was McIver and the surname of each of her three sons should be spelled the same way.
James’s younger brother, 6803 Pte. Thomas McIver 35th Battalion AIF, was killed in action near Villers Bretonneux on 4 April 1918, aged 28.
Another younger brother, 2067 Pte. Neil Campbell McIver 46th Battalion AIF, was returned to Australia during July 1919.
They were the sons of James and Mary Campbell McIver, of Wellington, New South Wales.
The soldiers father died in Wellington during 1919 and the mother Mary Campbell McIver became next of kin for all three.
