He was 24 and a son of John and Elizabeth Putland, of Bent St., Macksville, New South Wales. Native of Gundagai, New South Wales.

His brother rests in the same cemetery-he died the following day.

Wesley James Ethersey PUTLAND was born in Gundagai on 22nd March 1891 but brought up in Macksville. He joined the Tramways as a conductor in January 1914 and was released from duty in August to join the AIF in Sydney. He gave his occupation on enlistment as ‘bushman’.
On 18th May 1915 he was killed in action at Gallipoli, aged 24, and was buried in the Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, about 400 yards SE of Anzac Cove.
His younger brother, George, was also killed at Gallipoli.
