Although the enlistment documents have William as being born in Mount Gambier, however according to the South Australia Geneology database transcription his birth was registered as the following;
Date of birth: 9th August 1896 to parents Edward Theodore MEYER and Magaret Jane COLLINS.
Born in Williamstown and Registered in the District of Grey in Volume 589 and page 164
