7304 Sapper Edward Joseph Crowley was killed by a booby trap on the Lens-La Bassee Road in northern France.
Also wounded in the incident were 5848 Sapper J Thompson, 4545 Sapper CO Jones, 1202 Sapper CA Williams, 6837 RC Pritchard and 1183 D Tuohey. All of these men recovered and returned to Australia.
