Son of Christian Ihlsen and Sarah Ann Ohlse nee Tyers of Daisy Hill, Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 5 November 1917 aboard HT Themistocles disembarking on 31 December 1917 as wounded.

During 1920c William married Agnes Ann Hamilton in Victoria
