Ernest was the youngest of five children of Thomas James Weeks (born 1848 in Gloucestershire, England) and Harriet Norman (born 1849 in Sussex, England). Thomas was a Sailor in 1869 when he married Harriet in Gloucestershire, where they settled until immigrating to New South Wales. Thomas worked as a Bootmaker in Sydney.

Ernest worked as a Wharf Labourer in Newcastle, NSW and was a Winch Driver when he enlsited in the AIF in January 1916. He served as a Private and Sergeant (Service No:570) and Regimental Bootmaker with 34th Infantry Battalion B Coy. He was Discharged in September 1919.

In 1919 Ernest married Isabella (Bella) Blair Donald Stirling (born 1884 in Newcastle, NSW). They settled in Newcastle, NSW where Ernest worked as a Winch Driver. He died in 1946 and Bella in 1963.

77 years ago today, on the Wednesday afternoon of the 6th February 1946, Sergeant/Shoemaker Ernest George Weeks, 34th Battalion (Reg No-570), winch driver from Little Bourke Street, Carrington, New South Wales and 17 Hargrave Street, Carrington, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 58. BAPTIST-C SE. 29.

Born at Waterloo, New South Wales on the 8th July 1887 to Thomas James and Harriett Weeks nee Norman; husband of Isabella (Bella) Blair Donald Weeks nee Stirling (married 1919, died 28.9.1967, sleeping here, name not inscribed on plaque), Ernest enlisted January 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

On leave to England from the 31.12.1917 to the 16.1.1918 and the 25.12.1918 to the 11.1.1919.

Service record indicates no sickness or wounding's.

Ernest returned home on the 10th August 1919, being discharged on the 25th September 1919.

Mr. Week’s name has been inscribed on the Carrington Citizens' Memorial Gates, Carrington Municipal District Roll of Honor and the Newcastle Wharf Labourers' Union Roll of Honor.

I have placed poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at Ernest’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
