73 years ago today, on the Thursday afternoon of the 25th May 1950, Aircraft Mechanic (2nd Squadron) Herbert Oldham, Australian Flying Corps (Reg No-5621), labourer from Young Road, Lambton, New South Wales and Fitzroy Street, Carrington, N.S.W. and Addison Road, Beresfield, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 59. GENERAL-35A. 61.

Born at Lambton, New South Wales on the 15th July 1890 to William and Mary Ann Oldham; husband of Flora Bell Oldham nee Hayward (married 17.6.1918, Parish Church, Atcham, United Kingdom, died 24.5.1932, age 32, sleeping here.

Herb enlisted on the 3rd August 1915 with the 17th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A14 Euripides on the 9th September 1916.

Admitted to hospital 20.3.1917 (diarrhoea), 30.3.1917 (dysentery), 5.5.1917 (dysentery), 21.1.1919 (influenza).

Furlough in England from the 13.6.1917 to the 27.6.1917.

Herb returned home fit and well on the 25th September 1919 with wife Flora, being discharged on the 9th November 1919.

Mr. Oldham’s name has been inscribed on the Lambton and New Lambton Municipal District Roll of Honor and the Lambton Park Citizens' Memorial Gates.

I have placed poppies upon Herb’s gravesite plaque in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
