At the time of enlistment he was residing at Burnside Street, Bay Gawler, Victoria.

Son of James Unwin and Catherine Unwin nee Colbon of Dandenong Road, Oakleigh, Victoria.

10 March 1915 - enlisted at Perth, WA with the 32nd Battalion with the rank of Private. 

20 October 1916 - promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal

Commenced return to Australia on 9 December 1918 aboard HT Leicestshire disembarking on 15 January 1919

Medals: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

3 March 1919 - discharged at the 5th Military District as medically unfit due to haemorrhoids.
