Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Tom was the eldest of three children of John Morris (born 1868 in Carmarthenshire Wales) and Elizabeth (Bessy) Thomas (born 1868 in Ipswich, QLD). John immigrated to Brisbane, QLD on board the Jerusalem in 1883. He was a Teacher when he and Bessy married in Ipswich, QLD in 1889, and they moved to Rockhampton, then Gympie where John was Principal of the High School in 1913. The family moved to Brisbane, QLD where John was Principal of the Teacher's Training College.

Tom taught in Gympie, QLD and was in Brisbane when he enlisted in the AIF in September 1916 as a Private (Service No:3084) with 42nd Infantry Battalion 7th Reinforcements. In December 1916 Tom married Agnes Kirkpatrick Anderson (born 1891 in Brisbane, QLD). Agnes had attended Brisbane Girls' Grammar School, and was awarded the Lady Lilley Prize and the Fairfax Prize. She won an exhibition to Sydney University, choosing instead to spend four years at Glasgow University studying for a Masters Degree (with an Honours in Classics). Returning to QLD, Agnes taught at Gympie State High School, then worked in the High School Department at Central Technical College in Brisbane before resigning in 1919. Tom embarked in February 1917 and served in France with the 42nd and 15th Infantry Battalions. He was WiA in 1918 (GSW to side and back) in France and was Discharged in June 1919.

Following his Discharge, Tom returned to Teaching. He and Agnes lived in Laidley, Boonah, Nudgee and Nundah where Tom was a Teacher. Agnes died in 1943 and Tom died in 1947.
