From How We Served
6481 Private Peter William Dunbar of Kensington, Victoria had been employed as a clerk when he enlisted for War Service on the 8th of August 1916.
Allocated to reinforcements for the 5th Battalion 1st AIF, Peter was embarked for England and further training, arriving on the 16th of November.
On the 22nd of December, Peter arrived in France and was sent to the 'Bull Ring' at Etaples for further training before proceeding to join his Unit in the trenches on the 2nd of January 1917.
In the lead up operations to the 'Second Battle of Bullecourt', Peter was 'Killed in Action' by enemy shellfire in the vicinity of Morchies on the 22nd of April 1917. He was aged 22.
Peter received a formal burial in the Morchies Military Cemetery, Morchies, Arras, Nord Pas de Calais, France.
Back home in Australia, the supreme sacrifice made by Peter during 'The Great War' was privately commemorated at the Dunbar family's collective burial site within Melbourne General Cemetery, Victoria.
