D P Powell stated his age as 38 when he enlisted in Melbourne as one of the earliest recruits. He was actually 49. He went onto serve on 5th Btn HQ as a driver, surviving actions at Gallipoli and the Western Front. Lived until aged 67, died Brunswick VIC 1932.
