The Minmi Roll of Honour has 78 names inscribed of those who returned home from The Great War.
The 67th name inscribed is Private James Dodd.
On the Tuesday afternoon of the 2nd June 1942, Private James Dodd, referred to as Jim, 35th Battalion (Reg No-2309), labourer from Main Street, Minmi, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Rookwood General Cemetery, N.S.W., age 50 years 8 months. Methodist New 5B_Zone F, 223.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 14th September 1891 to Thomas, died 13.7.1943, Cessnock, N.S.W., age 86, buried at Sandgate Cemetery, N.S.W., METHODIST 3 (UNITING) H. 58, from Main Street, Minmi, New South Wales, and Ellen Eliza Dodd nee Banfield, died 21.9.1934, Minmi, N.S.W., age 70, mother of 6 daughters and 5 sons, sleeping at Sandgate Cemetery, N.S.W., METHODIST 3 (UNITING) H. 60, from Main Street, Minmi, New South Wales.
Jim enlisted on the 8th May 1916, age 24 years 7 months, at Broadmeadow, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A30 Borda on the 17th October 1916.
Disembarked Plymouth, England 9.1.1917.
Commenced return to Australia 10.9.1917.
Jim returned home suffering from dementia on the 13th November 1917, not being discharged until the 29th August 1918.
Did not serve in a theatre of war, therefore was not granted Victory Medal.
Mr. Dodd’s name has also been inscribed on the Cooks Hill Superior Public School Roll of Honour.
I would like to see placed poppies at Jim’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
Not officially commemorated.
