From How We Served

2699 Corporal Victor Romul Silvester Vort-Ronald of Keswick, South Australia had immigrated to Australia from Russia and was employed as a clerk when he enlisted for War Service on the 14th of April 1915. Allocated to reinforcements for the 10th Battalion 1st AIF, Victor was hospitalised with bronchitis whilst in training in Australia and was delayed in his embarkation for England on the 28th of August 1916.

Following his arrival in England Victor was detatched to duty with AIF Headquarters in London where he was allocated to the Australian Pay Corps. Serving at different Training camps in England, Victor would again become ill and was hospitalised on the 30th of Janurary 1918 with what was first diagnosed as pulmonary tuberculosis.

On the 12th of March 1918, now being diagnosed as suffering fibrosis, Victor was shipped back to Australia as an invalid and was discharged from the 1st AIF on the 28th of June 1918.

Victor's ill health which was deemed as exhuberated by his service in the 'Great War' continued to deteriorate and on the 8th of Janurary 1927 he succumbed to sickness at the age of 43 and was formally interred within West Terrace Cemetery, South Australia.
