Edward James was single, and his father was deceased at the time of his enlistment. Edward James was 5'8 and weighed 54kgs. He also had blue eyes. There is also a note on the back of a piece of paper, from his mum that says she gave him consent to fight in war. He enlisted on 17-08- 1915 and died at Mouquet Farm.

Biography

 

Like many 27th Battalion reinforcements arriving in Egypt in early 1916, too late for Gallipoli, Edward was re-allocated from the 27th Battalion to the 10th in Egypt as losses from ANZAC were made up and experienced personnel had been transferred out to create the the 50th Battalion as part of the 'doubling of the AIF'.

 

Edward was killed in action during the closing stages of foighting around Mouquet Farm by the 1st Division of which the 10th Battalion was a part.
