Andrew Charles Purcell aka Charles Purcell
Charles was the fourth child and first son of John and Sarah Ann Purcell (nee Bates).
The Purcell family lived in Spring Hill near Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
After Charles' father John passed away in 1913 his mother Sarah married Edward Halle and relocated to Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. All but two of Charles' siblings, (Naomi Kate & Albert James), followed their mother to NSW.
In one of his mother Sarah's letters to the defence force after Charles' death she expressed the hope that one day in the future she might be able to visit his grave in France. Sarah never got there but her Great Grandson did in 2023 and two Purcell cousins from Ireland in 2025.
