Biography

Albert Barker was born 18 March 1895 in Collingwood, Melbourne, Victoria , and went to Western Australia with his parents, as a baby. Occupation in 1914, butcher He enlisted in the Army in World War 1 on 17 July 1916 and served as Private No. 2533 in Sixth Reinforcement Regiment , 44th. Battalion ,11th. Brigade of the First A.I.F. He embarked at Fremantle to sail for Europe on His Majesty's Australian Transport A8 ARGYLLSHIRE on 9 November 1916.The troops on that ship disembarked at Devonport,England on 10 January 1917.. He ,with his Unit, sailed from England to France on 10 April 1917. He was wounded in action in France 6 July 1917 with gunshot wound to his right wrist. He returned to Australia on the troopship RUNIC on 23 September 1918 and was discharged at Perth on 20 December 1918.
Rejoined the Army in WW11 October 1940 , in a Western Australian Garrison Battalion (Y Company). Discharged 9.4.1944 and died in Perth 11 July 1944 and buried in Karrakatta Cemetery.
