Duncan John Percival MacDonald, also known as John, Sailorman and soldier, was born in 1891 in Adelaide, South Australia and lived with his mother Mrs Elizabeth Preston.
On the 18th of November 1915, John embarked from Adelaide on the HMAT A2 'Geelong' with the 32nd Battalion and proceeded to the Western front. During the battle of Villers-Bretonneux, he was gassed. John was taken to Norfolk War Hospital, Thorpe, Norwich on 9th of May 1918 and was transferred to Harefield Hospital on the 15th of May 1918. He returned to Australia on the 13th of April 1919 and his cause of death is unknown.
