William Horsburgh BEATTIE was born on 14th September, 1868 in Edinburgh, Scotland

His parents were Joseph BEATTIE & Elizabeth Stewart HORSBURGH

He married Evelyn Medora Lucy HENZELL in Coonoona, Queensland on 4th October, 1892 - 4 children, Kenneth (died as an infant), Lorna, Evelyn & Winifred

He had previous commissioned service for 4 years in the Naval Forces & 18 months in the AIF (Service No. 484) & was discharged as medically unfit on 2nd February, 1916 after suffering malaria,  before he re- enlisted on 3rd July, 1916 and embarked from Brisbane on the HMAT Boonah on 21st October, 1916 with the 15th Infantry Battalion, 21st reinforcements - he returned to Australia on 27th July, 1917 & was discharged on 27th October, 1917

William died in Brisbane, Queensland on 1st June 1918 of Illness and is buried in Nundah Cemetery
