"...3522 Private Russell Pierce Fraser, 8th Reinforcements, 23rd Battalion, of Cressy, Vic. Pte Fraser enlisted on 31 August 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Afric on 5 January 1916. On 13 March 1916 he joined the 2nd Pioneer Battalion. On 18 July 1917 he was awarded a Military Medal (MM) for his actions at Bullecourt where he brought a wounded man to safety while wounded himself. On 19 November 1917 he was awarded a Bar to the Military Medal. He was wounded again on 15 April 1918 at Abbeville in France and was sent to England for treatment.
