"...3522 Private Russell Pierce Fraser, 8th Reinforcements, 23rd Battalion, of Cressy, Vic. Pte Fraser enlisted on 31 August 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Afric on 5 January 1916. On 13 March 1916 he joined the 2nd Pioneer Battalion. On 18 July 1917 he was awarded a Military Medal (MM) for his actions at Bullecourt where he brought a wounded man to safety while wounded himself. On 19 November 1917 he was awarded a Bar to the Military Medal. He was wounded again on 15 April 1918 at Abbeville in France and was sent to England for treatment. On 25 September 1919 he returned to Australia." - SOURCE (
