Private William Boyce (Service No:4019) enlisted in the AIF on 29 May 1916 and served in France with 10/31st Infantry Battalion. Private Boyce was WiA in France on 27 November 1917 and evacuated to England with gas poisoning. He embarked for the RTA on 24 January 1918 on board HT Dundee Castle and was Discharged on 20 April 1918.

Born in 1897 in Ipswich QLD, Bill was the fourth of ten children of John Boyce (b1863 in Nottinghamshire, England) and Mary Ann Spencer (b1867 in Nottinghamshire, England). John (a Farm Servant) and Mary (a Mill Hand) married in 1889 in Basford, Nottinghamsire. The couple left England bound for Brisbane, QLD in 1890 on board the Dacca which sank in the Red Sea in May - they finally arrived in Brisbane in July on board the Taroba. John worked as a Labourer and he and Mary raised their family in Ipswich and Nambour.

Bill was a Plumber in Nambour in 1916 when he enlisted in the AIF and returned there following his Discharge. Bill was working as a Labourer in 1923 when he married Beatrice Ellen Leach (b1903 in Mt Mellon, QLD). Bill and Beatrice lived in Beerburrum and Landsborough where Bill was a Farmer, and later in Nambour where he was a Farm Labourer. Bill served with the Militia in 1934 (Private; Service No:411381), in 9/15th Battalion. Bill died in 1974 and Beatrice in 1984.
