Rupert Thomas JOSE

Rupert moved from SA about 1902-03 with his Mother Louise Jose, sisters and brother Allan. His father William Henry Jose had earlier (about 1900) taken up a land grant at Mt Kokeby or otherwise known as The Dale, near Beverley prior to his wife and children moving from Adelaide.
Charlie remained in Adelaide another year or two completing his studies. Parents William Henry Jose and Louisa Richards married Claire, SA in 1892. His father purchased farms at Mt. Kokeby and Corrigin. Rupert was the second son of three boys and two daughters. His Mother, sisters remained living at Mt. Kokeby while the three boys, Rupert, Charlie and Alan farmed at Corrigin. In the earlier years their older sister Ethel came to cook and help at Corrigin. Ethel married 1908 to Robert 'Bob' Harvey Fulwood, then moved to Cunderdin to farm.

The farm at Mt Kokeby was to be for Rupert and the Corrigin farm for Charlie and Alan. The Jose family were devastated by Rupert's untimely death in Oct 1917 and of course the Mt Kokeby farm known as 'Mail Rock', was eventually sold to the neighbouring famers - the Butcher Brothers, in fact to the eldest brother Bertram 'Bert' Butcher who married 1922 to Sybell Jose, Rupert's youngest sister.

Rupert was said to have been a quiet man, in fact the three Jose brothers were all quiet. As bachelors they worked hard initially clearing the land at Corrigin and probably did not socialise greatly. We know Rupert was a member of the Corrigin Rifle Club and competed regularly in competition in which he did well.

Charlie also enlisted in WW1, a short time after Rupert. He joined the 16th Battalion and fortunately returned home safely.

Older brother Charlie married in 1920 and the Corrigin farm was divided into two.
Charlie had one son who took over the farm for some years prior to selling. Allan never married and retired, moving to Albany where he died in 1979.

It was said William Henry was heart-broken over his son Rupert's death. William died in 1930.
