Son of William James Barrett Uphill and Margaret Uphill nee Livingstone of Mount Schanck, SA. Brother of Duncan William Uphill who returned to Australia on 10 August 1919 having served with the 9th Light Horse Regiment

Re-alloted with number 5122A when taken on strength
Commenced return to Australia on 5 July 1919 aboard HT Port Melbourne disembarking 18 August 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Adelaide
