Son of Charles Hawke and Sarah Porter Hawke nee Robinson of Northcote Street, Torrensville, NSW.
Brother of Sarah Myrtle Hawke, William Charles Hawke, Mary Beatrice Hawke, Henry Arnold Hawke, Janet Dorothy Hawke, Alice Phillippia Hawke and Samuel Stephen Hawke who was killed in action at Pozieres on 5 August 1916 while serving with the 27th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial
Commenced return to Australia on 19 June 1919 aboard HT Miliades disembarking on 5 August 1919 in Melbourne for onward travel to Adelaide
