Born 12/1/1884 Yetholm, Roxburghshire, Scotland
Father John Muir (a Carrier d. 1918) & Mary Muir, lived at Kirkyetholm, Scotland.

Sister:  Mrs James Davidson, living at Kirkyetholm, Scotland

28/6/1907   Left London for Australia
15/8/1907   disembarked into Brisbane, Queensland

He then went to work in the canefields in North Queensland.

On enlisting Robert was 28 years 11 months old, single, 5' 4" tall;  
brown eyes; fair hair; brown complexion; Presbyterian

18/12/1914  enlisted in Ayr, Queensland

23/3/1915    appointed to 4th reinforcements o f2nd regiment

8/4/1915      embarked from Brisbane, QLD, onboard HMAT Star of England A15
                    as a Private in 2nd Light Horse Regiment, 4th reinforcements

22/5/1915     joined 2nd Light Horse Regiment

1/8/1915       embarked to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Forces, Alexandria, Egypt

10/9/1915      to hospital, Gallipoli, ANZAC
26/9/1915      transferred to 16th Stationary Hospital at Mudros
27/10/1915    admitted to General Hospital, Bristol, UK

16/2/1916      returned to regiment at Mediterranean Expeditionary Forces
19/2/1916      retaken on strength at Turk-el-Kheil

26/6/1916      to 31st General hospital - Romani, Egypt
29/7/1916      discharged to duty, Port Said, Egypt

for 1 months furlo in UK

He met Annie Ford, in London when he was on leave after falling ill at Gallipoli.

3/11/1917      promoted to Lance Corporal with 2nd Light Horse Regiment, Beesheba

20/4/1918      sick to hospital - Egyptian Expeditionary Forces
21/4/1918      admitted to 65th Casualty Clearing Station

23/5/1918      joined Yeom Base, 1st Light Horse Training Regiment
                     Rest Camp in Moascar

20/6/1918      taken on strength back to 2nd Light Horse Regiment, in the field

21/9/1918      sick with Malaria - admitted 14th Australian General Hospital, Port Said
17/11/1918     rejoined unit in the field at Moascar

4/1/1919         fractured right ulna, admitted to 78th General Hospital
24/1/1919       dishcarged to duty
8/2/1919         rejoined unit in the field
16/2/1919       sick with Rubella - Jerusaleum

2/3/1919         rejoined regiment in Moascar

28/3/1919       embarked Port Said onboard Malwa, for England
                      for 1 months leave 

12/4/1919 - 12/5/1919  granted leave 

They only met the once and then corresponded for the rest of the war, meeting
again after the war finished when he travelled to London from Egypt. 

6/5/1919     Married Annie Ford in The Parish Church, Yetholm, Roxburgh, Scotland
                  (35yrs, was a Domestic Servant in Ewell, Surrey)

10/6/1919    marched out to return to Australia

28/6/1919    Returned together onboard Windhuk
21/8/1919    disembarked into NSW (disch Qld)

22/9/1919    discharged from service

Medals:  1914/1915 Star (9316); British War medal (3244) and 
              Victory War medal (3181)

Robert and Annie had 2 children, 1 girl (b 1921) who died soon after birth
and Robert Muir (Jnr - b 11/11/1922).


Applied for assistance under the War Services Homes Act in 1925 NSW

13/11/1975   passed away in Sydney, NSW

He donated his body to the Sydney University. 

2/5/1980       Annie passed away in Sydney and her ashes were scattered
                     in her garden in Dee Why.
