Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board
John George DEACON (Service Number 840) was born in Sydney in 1888, joined the NSWGR as a firelighter in the Goulburn locomotive depot in 1913. In August 1914 he enlisted in the AIF at Randwick.
He was embarked from Sydney in October and proceeded to Gallipoli.

John George DEACONm(Service Number 840) was born in Sydney in 1888. he joined the NSW Government Railways as a firelighter in the Goulburn locomotive depot in 1913. In August 1914 he enlisted in the AIF at Randwick.
He left Sydney in October and went to Gallipoli. He was vacuated sick in May 1915, After three weeks in hospital he was transferred to base detail in Egypt. He returned to Gallipoli to re-join his unit on 18th July. He was reported missing sometime between 7th and 14th August. This report was changed later that month to show that he was killed in action sometme between 6th and 9th August.
He is believed to be buried in Lone Pine Cemetery, where he is commemorated, but his actual grave is unknown.
