Add my storyBiography
William Richard known as Will, with his twin brother, Francis Stanley known in the family as Mick but enlisted under the name of Frank, were the eldest of 12 children of William Robert Slater & Frances Elizabeth Stevens, they were born in Chippendale, 10lb each & both had beautiful blue eyes. When they were toddlers the family moved to 12 Hegarty Street, Forest Lodge. In 1914 their Mother decided to move them & their 7 siblings to the safety of the country & away from the enemy threat of the harbour, they moved to "Broughton" 31 Scott Street, Gowrie Park, not so much the country these days, Gowrie Park is now known as Punchbowl. On 19.7.1916 their Mother gave birth to her 10th child & named him Stanley Richard "in case the boys didn't come home". Will returned to Sydney on 13.7.1919 onboard HMAT "Aeneas", he never married or enjoyed good health after the war but did return to his previous job at McMurtie & Son Bootmakers, where he had started his apprenticeship in 1910. Will enlisted on 22 MAR 1916 at the R.A.S. Moore Park, Sydney.
