The Newcastle Morning Herald reported on 5 May 1952 that Councillor Edward Percival Gain MM of Toronto had died in Concord Military Hospital after being ill for several months. He was 67.
A councillor on Lake Macquarie Shire Council for 11 years, Cr. Gain was President in 1945 and Deputy President the following year. He was a member of Toronto Urban Area Committee and took a leading part in public movements in Toronto and the Lake Macquarie area. He was Captain of Toronto Fire Brigade.
Cr. Gain was a sergeant in the 35th Battalion, A.I.F. in World War I and was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry.
Subsequently, Edward Gain Park at Toronto was named in his honour. On the western shore of Lake Macquarie, the park is located between the Toronto Amateur Sailing Club and the old Toronto Station on Victory Parade.
